The New Leadership Will Bolster Outlier Ventures Executive Team for its next Phase of Growth

Today Outlier Ventures, the world’s leading Web3 accelerator* has announced the appointment of Stephan Apel as its new Chief Executive Officer. Stephan, a 20 year veteran executive, will succeed Jamie Burke, who is stepping into the role of Chairman at Outlier Ventures. Starting today, Stephan takes on the new role at Outlier Ventures having already worked closely with Jamie and the executive team through a strategic period of transition. Stephan, was one of the original backers and Board Members of Outlier Ventures and then joined operationally as third Founding Partner in the role of Managing Partner in 2016. The new team updates come at a time when Outlier Ventures is preparing to accelerate its business in its next phase of growth.

“Stephan was a Founding Partner at Outlier Ventures, helping us scale the organisation and navigate two bear markets, as well as providing invaluable strategic knowledge and expertise to help achieve our incredible growth,” said Jamie Burke, Founder and Chairman of Outlier Ventures. “Together with Founding Partner and Chief Technology Officer, Aron van Ammers, we took the portfolio to 257 startups, becoming an industry leading brand that partners with incredible brands and protocols while putting founders at the heart of all we do. As we prepare for the next bull run, this phase of our journey and subsequent growth, will take us into entirely new territory that Stephan’s strong skill set brings to the table in its day-to-day leadership.”

During his previous role as Managing Partner, Stephan was instrumental in setting the foundations of key  strategic areas across the business, in particular Outlier Ventures’ token launch platform, Ascent. Stephan has also been leading across core commercial, operational and financial aspects of the business as well as providing hands-on leadership for the token launches of numerous projects across Outlier Ventures’ portfolio along with growing the list of Outlier backers from early Web3 adopters to now include family offices, a corporation and a sovereign wealth fund.

In Jamie’s new role as Chairman, he will continue to work closely with Stephan along with driving the overall strategic direction of Outlier Ventures and its growing portfolio of founders, as well as play an increasingly active role at an industry level.

“I am truly honoured to build on the last decade of successful leadership of its founder Jamie and have the opportunity to now lead Outlier Ventures as its CEO as we enter a transformational new era for the company,” said Stephan Apel, Chief Executive Officer of Outlier Ventures. “I am really looking forward to leading the incredibly talented Outlier team across the globe as we continue to support Web3 founders. With our extensive expertise and unique offering, we are the leading Web3 accelerator globally and in a unique position to bring together partners and Web3 ecosystems along with supporting Web3 founders across their entire business cycle from the early stages through to token launch and beyond. I cannot wait to dive in and build on the momentum we have already achieved, continuing to work with Jamie closely as we scale the business.”
